Arezzo: The Future of Jewelry Goes Green

The future of jewelry passes through Arezzo and increasingly speaks the language of sustainability. The Arezzo gold district will become a testing laboratory for a technology destined to change the way high jewelry is produced: the use of green hydrogen as an exclusive energy source. This is the goal of the project “Phe4Gold – Photovoltaic Hydrogen Electrolysis For Gold,” promoted by Graziella Braccialini together with Brt Consulting, which won the Mission Innovation 2.0 tender of the Pnrr.

The project has received funding of approximately two million euros from the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security and was selected among only eleven nationwide. The ambition is to achieve a production system powered 100% by renewable sources, through the integration of photovoltaics, hydrogen production, and storage systems, contributing concretely to the decarbonization of the goldsmith sector.

Key Role of Brt Consulting

The role of Brt Consulting, an Arezzo-based company already active internationally, is decisive.

“The victory of this tender,” comments Emanuele Gori, project representative for Graziella Braccialini, “stems from careful study and research work with a multidisciplinary team. The funding will allow us to study a revolutionary system to be concretely applied to the gold district, which will bring enormous benefits to companies and the environment, paving the way for new industrial standards and virtuous practices that can also be replicated in other sectors that self-consume hydrogen.”

“Phe4Gold” involves four companies along the Arezzo-Pisa axis: in addition to Graziella Braccialini, participants include Arezzo-based G-Smart, Enapter, and Zerynth, with scientific support from the University of Pisa.

“With this funding,” adds Dr. Massimo Biribicchi, “we will be able to concretely demonstrate how the energy transition can integrate with manufacturing production, ensuring sustainability, efficiency, and a significant reduction in emissions, opening new prospects for the entire Italian goldsmith sector.”
