**Editor’s Note:** This piece profiles Giampiero Tiburzi, an Umbrian entrepreneur whose passion for luxury and excellence has taken him from wine to emeralds in Colombia. His revival of an old brand with a new jewelry line, recently featured at the Venice Film Festival, underscores a career defined by reinvention and a keen eye for quality.
Entrepreneur by Vocation
Giampiero Tiburzi (photo), a native of Umbria, has a strong predilection for excellence and the luxury sector (whether food, wine, art, Rolex, or jewelry). Even now that he lives permanently in Colombia, he has not lost his “vice” for business and has become an international importer of top-quality Colombian emeralds. With these, he revived the old company brand—which had also been used for the winery—and created his own line of jewelry, recently showcased at the Venice Film Festival. Tiburzi shared this Venetian event with model Eleonora Pieroni, a native of Foligno who has lived in New York for years, chosen as the testimonial for jewelry made with ‘Tiburzi-branded’ emeralds, which illuminate authentic unique pieces, often made upon client request.
“I have lived in Colombia for many years,” says Tiburzi, “I have a Colombian wife. In Italy, I also worked as a manager for Umbrian painters, and I am a watch collector. This last passion-activity brought me into contact with many important jewelers, contacts that later proved useful when I started trading emeralds. I do direct import and created my own brand; in fact, I revived the family brand that was previously used for wines. After my father sold the winery, the brand remained unused for 10 years. I had designed the logo myself, and now I have revived it, registered it, and brought it to the Venice Festival. At the Lido, the stunning testimonial of the Tiburzi brand, Eleonora Pieroni (photo above), was with me, wearing some of my jewelry with Colombian emeralds. Now we also have another very beautiful project together, concerning Miss Universe. My brand,” adds Tiburzi, “only involves Colombian stones, which I have set by four excellent goldsmiths, one of whom is in Umbria. I have an official partner in a qualified gemological laboratory, and when it comes to special stones, I have them recertified in Switzerland. I am currently creating a high-level jewelry line that I will sell in Italy in Forte dei Marmi, Milan, Rome, and Taormina; the stores are being set up.”
