Abu Dhabi – A large 10.03-carat blue diamond, with an estimated value of $20 million, was unveiled on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, before being auctioned in mid-May in Geneva, Switzerland.
The “Mediterranean Blue” (its name) will also be shown to collectors and enthusiasts in Taipei, Hong Kong, and New York before the sale, according to the auction house Sotheby’s.
The “Mediterranean Blue” will not be sold alone. It is the star piece of a collection to be auctioned for an estimated total of about $100 million, which includes “the world’s largest and purest diamonds, the second-largest known red diamond, and several diamonds over 100 carats,” according to a statement from the auction house.
In Abu Dhabi, the cut stones shared space with sumptuous jewels, including a necklace encrusted with white diamonds and a 100.26-carat pear-shaped brown diamond pendant.
