Delphine Abdou-Fitton launched ÓNÍSÌ Paris, an e-shop of antique jewelry sourced from around the world, which she personally curated. This allows access to quality jewelry at more affordable prices while sparing the planet from the extraction of new resources through polluting techniques. She shares the small and large stories behind antique jewelry.
When we see the seemingly sudden interest of the TikTok generation in pearl necklaces, it could be a freshly purchased model from Vivienne Westwood (which has offered them for decades), a grandmother’s heirloom, or a piece found online or at a flea market. In fact, antique jewelry has always been popular, but the way to acquire it is being reinvented through the internet.
Launched on October 26, 2022, the ÓNÍSÌ Paris e-shop is among the new players in the second-hand jewelry market worth exploring. When it comes to beautiful stones and precious metals, buying online can be intimidating, but founder Delphine Abdou-Fitton aims to democratize this gesture. This enthusiast personally curated everything she offers on her site and loves mixing styles from different eras and countries, like blending flavors in fusion cuisine. She believes that quality antique jewelry should not be reserved for luxury, and that second-hand allows access at a more affordable price while sparing the planet from resource extraction through polluting techniques.
With Delphine Abdou-Fitton, we discussed the benefits of second-hand jewelry, traceability of precious stones and metals, blood diamonds, and the small and large stories within each antique piece.
If I had to define myself by my profession, I would say I am a modern-day treasure hunter! However, if I were to introduce myself more personally, I would start by saying I am the product of a Beninese, French, Martinican, and Indian mix, and it is this multicultural heritage that has made me so sensitive to cultural blending. Cultural diversity is an infinite wealth for me, and it is reflected in the jewelry I source and in everything I love (decoration, gastronomy, etc.).
Banking was my very first experience, as an apprentice, and I entered it because I was studying at Dauphine, so it was quite easy to find a first experience in that sector. Very quickly, I realized it wasn’t for me, so I seized the opportunity of a competition organized by L’Oréal to work in a field that attracted me much more: beauty.
Alongside that, I was sourcing jewelry for myself from the age of 17. Even though I didn’t have a big budget, I saved money to buy antique jewelry. At the time, I remember people looked at me strangely when I said my jewelry was second-hand. Vintage wasn’t as democratized as it is today. So, I never thought of making it a business at that time. I also didn’t seek to work in jewelry because I loved working in beauty. For me, they were really two distinct things: my passion for jewelry on one side and my passion for beauty on the other. I learned everything about jewelry as a self-taught person, and I would say that in general, in my life, all the things I am truly passionate about, I learned through experience and by exchanging with other enthusiasts.
With ÓNÍSÌ Paris, I want to make second-hand jewelry an obvious choice, a reflex when looking for a piece of jewelry.
