Christie’s is auctioning the legendary wine collection of the watch patron.
Mouton Rothschild, Romanée Conti, or Vega Sicilia: More than 2,400 bottles from Jörg Bucherer are seeking new owners – for a good cause.
Swiss watch manufacturers fondly remember the year 1999: it was the first time they broke the export mark of 9 billion Swiss francs. A year to celebrate. But it wasn’t just the watch industry that rejoiced; the wine world was also satisfied. In France’s Burgundy region, winemakers harvested perfect grapes. Red wines from that time still impress in the glass today and are a sought-after rarity.
The late watch patron Jörg Bucherer formed a bridge between these two worlds. Now, his wine collection from the estate is up for sale. In April, the auction house Christie’s will auction a case of twelve Romanée-Saint-Vivant 1999 from Domaine Leroy. These wines are among the most expensive Burgundies in existence. Thanks to their prominent previous owner, Christie’s expects proceeds of up to £60,000.
