This article has been updated to reflect the IIGJ Laboratory’s revised terminology for ruby treatment reports, which aims to standardize descriptions and align with global gemological standards.

Gemological Laboratory Report Updates

The International Institute of Gemology and Jewellery (IIGJ) Laboratory has announced a significant update to its terminology used in ruby treatment reports. This revision aims to standardize descriptions and enhance clarity, bringing its reporting practices into closer alignment with the globally recognized standards adopted by other leading gemological laboratories.

The update specifically refines the language used to describe various treatment processes and their stability, ensuring that trade professionals and consumers receive consistent and unambiguous information. This move is part of a broader industry effort to foster transparency and trust in the colored gemstone market.

“Standardizing terminology is a critical step towards global harmonization in gemology. It eliminates confusion and ensures that a report from our lab conveys the same meaning and level of detail as one from any other major international laboratory,” said a spokesperson for the IIGJ Lab.

The revised report format is now in effect for all ruby submissions to the IIGJ Laboratory.
