Stakeholders and rights holders encouraged to submit comments to help shape the future of mining

LONDON, October 8, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The partners of the Consolidated Mining Standard Initiative (CMSI) – The Copper Mark, ICMM, the Mining Association of Canada (MAC), and the World Gold Council (WGC) – are pleased to announce that the final public consultation for the consolidated standard, the assurance process, and the claims policy will take place from October 8 to November 17, 2025.

The consolidated standard combines the best of four existing standards into a comprehensive and practical standard, supported by a robust assurance process and claims policy, to reduce complexity in the regulatory landscape and increase its adoption among companies seeking to be a credible global benchmark.

The final public consultation for the consolidated standard, the assurance process, and the claims policy will allow all stakeholders and rights holders operating in the mining sector and value chain, as well as all those affected by mining activities, to review and provide feedback before the final version of the documents is produced.

The partners will conduct engagement activities during the final public consultation, such as virtual public webinars in different time zones; direct briefings for a wide range of stakeholders and rights holders, including civil society organizations, government representatives, and policymakers; and specific activities with Indigenous Peoples and their organizations.

“Through this extensive engagement and consultation process, stakeholders and rights holders from around the world are invited to collaborate in developing a standard that helps drive positive outcomes for both people and the environment throughout the value chains of each metal, from extraction to smelting, refining, and beyond. Stakeholders are encouraged to ‘have their say’ and help shape the future of mining.”

For greater clarity and transparency, detailed reports with responses to the comments received through the first consultation on the consolidated standard, the assurance process, and the claims policy have also been published:

First Public Consultation

The final public consultation follows the first public consultation, held between October 16 and December 16, 2024, which received substantial and detailed comments from 192 stakeholders from 25 countries, with nearly 4,700 individual comments.

Following the completion of the Governance Model, The Copper Mark’s Board of Directors is evolving. This renewed board, which will be multi-stakeholder in nature, will have significant involvement in finalizing the consolidated standard, the assurance process, and the claims policy and will be solely responsible for its approval. We expect that in the first half of 2026, the independent Chair and members of the Independent Board will be appointed, and the final Consolidated Standard will be launched.
