【Zhengzhou, H】(Economic Observer) Cultured Diamond Industry Awaits Dual Transformation in Brand Growth and Intelligent Production

Editor’s Note

At a major industry conference, officials emphasized that a unified brand system is essential for the sustainable growth and market strength of the cultured diamond sector. This call highlights a strategic shift toward collective branding to enhance global competitiveness.

Industry Leaders Call for Shared Brand System

At the 2025 Cultured Diamond Industry Conference which opened in Zhengzhou, Henan province on December 6, Zhou Hongning, head of the Industrial Brand Cultivation Expert Group under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, stated that creating and sharing a brand system is both a necessity for the development of the cultured diamond industry and a scientific path to strengthen cultured diamond brands.

Market Growth and Development Opportunities

According to the “2025 Cultured Diamond Industry Development Research Report” (hereinafter referred to as the “Report”) released during the conference, the current global cultured diamond market is valued at approximately 127.2 billion yuan (RMB). Driven by multiple factors such as increasing market acceptance, accelerated brand deployment, technological advancements, and expansion into new application areas, the cultured diamond industry is facing unprecedented development opportunities.

The Branding Challenge for Henan’s Industry

Against the backdrop of rapid market growth, how to empower industry development with brand value has become a focus for industry insiders. Multiple interviewees indicated that while “look to China for lab-grown diamonds, and look to Henan for Chinese diamonds” is already an industry consensus, a competitive brand system for Henan’s cultured diamonds is far from being established.

“Currently, the global cultured diamond market is still dominated by European and American brands. Although Henan’s cultured diamonds have gone global, the brand identity of ‘buy diamonds in Zhengzhou’ has not yet been established.”

Chen Wenling, former Chief Economist of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges, analyzed that while Henan’s cultured diamond industry possesses advantages such as advanced technology, high production capacity, and a complete industrial chain, it is relatively lacking in brand influence and international marketing experience.

Integrating Emotional Attributes into Branding

At the conference, the dazzling array of cultured diamond products left a deep impression on attendees. Integrating emotional attributes into brand building became a topic of common concern.

“To extend brand value and grow the industry ‘pie,’ Henan’s cultured diamond industry needs to further deepen cross-border cooperation with the jewelry brand and fashion industries.”

Chang Jihong, Deputy Director of the Henan Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, stated that to cultivate high-end brands, it is necessary to launch fashionable designs and customized products targeting young consumers, create ultimate aesthetic experiences, deeply connect with user emotions, and form differentiated brand images.

“Emotional attributes should be added to cultured diamond brands, using content-driven methods to express the product’s core.”

Sun Songhe, Chairman of MCLON Jewelry Co., Ltd., said that how to convey the emotional awareness of cultured diamonds to consumers and integrate the brand into everyday life scenarios are key issues companies should consider.

Consensus on Advancing Intelligent Production

In addition to focusing on enhancing brand value, accelerating the advancement of intelligent production in the cultured diamond field has also become a consensus among several participating experts.

“Currently, there is still room for improvement in the precision of equipment, production efficiency, and product consistency in Henan’s cultured diamond industry.”

Chang Jihong believes that the fundamental way to break this industrial bottleneck lies in technological upgrading. This involves further overcoming key core technologies for the efficient and stable production of high-purity, large-grain diamonds and color control, and more actively developing artificial intelligence and automation technologies to enhance production efficiency and product consistency.

The aforementioned “Report” shows that in the processing of cultured diamonds, there are approximately 850,000 cutting and polishing workers globally, while China has only about 2,000. Some industry experts believe that developing automation technology, achieving dual-drive from intelligent systems and high-skilled talent, and reaching a 95% automated cutting and polishing rate is one of the core paths for the future development of the cultured diamond industry.
