The CBI has arrested Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar on charges of demanding a bribe. Raids on his offices in Mohali and his bungalow in Chandigarh led to the recovery of ₹7 crore in cash, gold ornaments, luxury cars, and foreign liquor.
A 52-member CBI team from Delhi and Chandigarh conducted raids at his Mohali office and his bungalow in Sector-40, Chandigarh. From the bungalow, ₹7 crore in cash was recovered, stored in three bags and two suitcases. Officers had to requisition three note-counting machines to tally the money. Additionally, 1.5 kg of gold ornaments, luxury watches, foreign liquor, and a revolver were also seized.
The CBI also found documents related to 15 properties and luxury cars belonging to the DIG. Expensive cars like BMW and Mercedes, along with bank locker keys, were seized from his bungalow. Harcharan is a 2009-batch IPS officer. His father, Mahal Singh Bhullar, is a former DGP of Punjab.
Bhullar’s basic monthly salary is ₹2,16,600, in addition to other allowances. He has declared assets worth ₹15 crore, which include a farmhouse in Jalandhar and land plots in Chandigarh and Kapurthala.
Harcharan Singh Bhullar is considered one of Punjab’s tough police officers. He was appointed DIG of Ropar Range on November 27, 2024.
