【Monaco】Chanel’s New ‘Haute Joaillerie Sport’ High Jewelry Collection Debuts in Monaco

Editor’s Note

**Editor’s Note:** Chanel’s latest high jewelry collection, ‘Haute Joaillerie Sport,’ arrives at a moment when athleticism dominates the global stage. While not directly tied to any specific event, its debut in Monaco aligns with the summer’s sporting fervor—from the Euros to the upcoming Paris Olympics. Creative Director Patrice Leguéreau’s 80-piece collection cleverly weaves Chanel’s iconic codes with sportswear motifs, offering a luxurious take on movement and energy.

Chanel’s new high jewelry collection, ‘Haute Joaillerie Sport,’ debuted this week in Monaco. While not directly inspired by current sporting events, its timing is apt as summer sports dominate headlines: the European Football Championship captivates Europe, the Paris Olympics are just a month away, and Wimbledon is on the horizon.

Designed by Creative Director Patrice Leguéreau, the collection comprises 80 pieces that incorporate Chanel’s iconic symbols and motifs from sportswear and equipment, resulting in unique, modern creations. Many necklaces and earrings feature elements resembling hoodie drawstrings, but are actually meticulously crafted from high-tech, electroplated colored aluminum. One brooch reimagines a carabiner as a slightly twisted number ‘5’—another classic Chanel emblem.

“Patrice wanted to choose clear, distinct, and powerful colors,” said Marianne Etchebarne, Global Product Sales Director for Chanel Watches and Jewelry.

Beyond its modern design, this year’s collection is notable for its extensive use of colored gemstones. Sapphires, rubies, spinels, garnets, yellow diamonds, emeralds, and onyx—these stones boast intense hues and are often large (the largest sapphire weighs 35.10 carats, featured in a ring design). “There are never more than two or three colors in each piece,” Etchebarne continued. “This graphic signature is meant to showcase the beauty of the stones.” High-tech yet subtle new colored lacquers and carbon fiber also run through the collection’s palette.

Monaco’s Sporting Heritage

The Principality of Monaco has a rich sporting history, with two major annual events firmly on the calendar—the Monaco Grand Prix (Formula 1) and the Monte-Carlo Masters (tennis). It was a favorite destination for Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld. To unveil the jewelry, editors visiting Monaco were invited to a cocktail party at La Vigie, Lagerfeld’s former summer residence (a gift from Prince Rainier III of Monaco to the designer), followed by a dinner at the Monte-Carlo Casino, attended by brand friends including Keira Knightley.
