Mumbai, December 11 (Bhasha) – Mumbai Customs has seized contraband worth a total of Rs 45 crore, including hydroponic cannabis, gold, and diamonds, in an operation at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and arrested 12 passengers, officials informed on Wednesday.
They stated that in the operation conducted between December 3 and 10, based on specific intelligence, nine passengers were apprehended, from whom hydroponic cannabis valued at Rs 37.26 crore was recovered.
All the accused passengers had arrived from Bangkok on various flights and have been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
In another operation, customs officials recovered six kilograms of suspected hydroponic cannabis from three passengers arriving from Bangkok, valued at approximately Rs 6 crore. All three passengers were also arrested.
The official added that, separately, gold worth Rs 1.51 crore was seized from four passengers, and diamonds worth Rs 87.75 lakh were seized from another individual. Cases have been registered against them on smuggling charges.
