【Dortmund, Ge】Discount Store Recall: Jewelry Can Be Dangerous for Some – Beware of This Product

Editor’s Note

**Editor’s Note:** Tedi has recalled its “5 Pair Gold” Creole earring set (sold May 2019–Feb 2020) due to excessive nickel levels, posing allergy risks. Customers may return the product for a refund or exchange. Nickel allergy, the most common contact allergy in Germany, can cause dermatitis.

A recall has been issued for a Creole earring set sold at Tedi due to high nickel content, which can cause allergies. The affected product, “5 Pair Gold” Creole set, was sold from May 21, 2019, to February 10, 2020, in Tedi stores. Customers can return the earrings for a refund of €2.30 or exchange for another item. High nickel exposure may lead to nickel dermatitis, with symptoms including redness, swelling, and itching. According to Apothekenrundschau, nickel allergy is the most common contact allergy in Germany. Jewelry and other items must not release more than 0.5 µg of nickel per square centimeter per week. Cheap nickel is often used in fashion jewelry and trouser buttons to stretch metal alloys. The Katwarn warning service also alerted about this recall.
