**Editor’s Note:** This report highlights serious safety concerns regarding metal accessories from major Chinese e-commerce platforms, with cadmium levels in some items exceeding South Korean standards by nearly 1,000 times.
South Korean authorities announced that metal accessories sold on major Chinese e-commerce sites contained cadmium far exceeding safety standards.
The cadmium was detected in metal accessories such as rings and necklaces sold on Chinese e-commerce platforms “SHEIN,” “AliExpress,” and “Temu.”
South Korea’s Ministry of Environment examined 415 accessories and found cadmium in 49 of them.
Among these, a ring sold on Temu had a cadmium content of 94.5%, which is 945 times the South Korean standard.
Additionally, other accessories were found to contain lead up to 319 times the standard limit. Furthermore, air fresheners sold on these sites were found to contain prohibited harmful substances linked to respiratory issues.
Previously, harmful substances with carcinogenic risks had been identified in women’s underwear and inflatable rings sold on SHEIN from Chinese e-commerce platforms.
