Tiffany’s 160th Anniversary of the Chronograph

Tiffany has unveiled the new chronograph “Tiffany Timer” at the LVMH Watch Week 2026 held in Milan. Only 60 pieces will be produced.

Marking the 160th anniversary of Tiffany’s introduction of America’s first stopwatch, the brand has presented a newly interpreted, limited edition of 60 pieces, the “Tiffany Timer.” It was first revealed at LVMH Watch Week 2026, held in Milan from January 19 to 22, 2026.

The new “Tiffany Timer” fuses the brand’s glorious heritage in jewelry and design with its distinguished tradition in watchmaking. The platinum case houses a customized El Primero 400 chronograph movement, featuring a motif inspired by Tiffany’s iconic “Bird on a Rock.”

Design and Craftsmanship Details

The “Tiffany Timer,” featuring a polished 40mm platinum case, is characterized by supple curves and a rounded form. The chronograph pushers are curved to follow the contour of the case, also serving as crown guards.

The faceted crown evokes the six-prong Tiffany® Setting, symbolic of Tiffany’s diamond solitaire rings. The pure luster of platinum is further accentuated by the Tiffany Blue lacquered dial.

Baguette-cut diamonds set on the indexes pay homage to Tiffany’s legacy. To maintain color harmony, the hour/minute hands and sub-dial hands are made of white gold.

The dial production begins with eight spray applications of matte Tiffany Blue varnish onto the dial surface to achieve the ideal depth of color. The dial is then dried in a kiln for two hours. Next, artisans apply 15 layers of transparent lacquer, with each layer allowed to dry completely naturally through temperature control. An additional 12-hour firing completes the initial process, totaling approximately 40 hours. Subsequently, details are added via transfer printing, and finally, a gem-setter sets the baguette-cut diamond indexes onto the dial.

Case Back and Historical Context

Through the sapphire crystal case back, one can see the bird motif from Tiffany’s iconic “Bird on a Rock” brooch incorporated into the open-worked winding rotor. The small bird, meticulously faithful to Schlumberger’s original design, is hand-carved to highlight the rich materiality of 18K yellow gold. It is then polished through traditional manual methods using various tools like diamond polishing paste and small sticks of gentian wood, creating delicate gradations in brilliance and beautifully defining the form’s contours. This finished bird is elegantly positioned on the rotor, and the case back is engraved with “Limited edition of 60.”

The “Tiffany Timer” is limited to 60 pieces.

Tiffany began its watch endeavors in 1847. The “Tiffany Timing Watch” introduced in 1866 was a pocket watch created for timing scientific experiments and sporting events, positioned as Tiffany’s first stopwatch.

Two years later, after establishing a watch assembly workshop in Switzerland, this watch was renamed the “Tiffany Timer.” In 1874, Tiffany established a full-fledged watchmaking workshop in the heart of Geneva, producing watches with various complications like chronographs and calendar functions, and securing numerous patents for innovative technologies in movement and hand adjustment.

At LVMH Watch Week, alongside the new “Tiffany Timer,” three Tiffany-made chronographs from the 19th century were displayed. Two of these historical watches are split-second chronographs with “Geneva” engraved on their dials. The venue also exhibited precious materials from The Tiffany Archives, including a late 19th-century “Timing Watch Catalog” and the 1893 “Blue Book.”
