In Madhya Pradesh’s Panna district, the fortune of two friends shone brightly when they discovered two sparkling diamonds from a diamond mine.
Satish Khatik (24) and Sajid Mohammad (23), residents of Raniganj, Panna, had leased a mine plot from the diamond office and had been working hard in the Krishna Kalyanpuri Pati area for 20 consecutive days. Their hard work paid off on Friday when they unearthed the largest and most valuable gem-quality diamond of the year so far—a 15.34-carat, light-colored stone. The estimated value of this diamond is over 60 lakh rupees (approximately $72,000).
District Diamond Officer Ravi Patel stated that the friends had found a gem-quality diamond, which is in good demand in the market. It will be placed in an upcoming auction, where it is expected to fetch a good price.
Both friends come from families with pressing financial needs, particularly for their sisters’ weddings. Satish runs a mutton shop with his father, and Sajid works at a fruit shop with his. Each has two sisters of marriageable age.
Sajid shared that his grandfather, Mohammad Habib, searched for diamonds for nearly 50 years but only ever found a one-carat stone. His father, Nafees Mohammad, tried for 20 years but found only small diamonds. For the family’s third generation to find a 15.34-carat diamond is nothing short of a blessing.
