In Japan, 12 types were determined and announced in 1958 by the current National Jewelry Wholesalers Cooperative Association, and 10 more were added in 2021. Let’s break free from the familiar birthstones, discover new gemstone partners, and deepen our knowledge. Astrologer Ryuji Kagami has selected gems that will guide the fortunes of each zodiac sign for the next seven years. Earth scientist Yasuko Okuyama will explain the scientific knowledge about these gems, creating a luxurious session.

“This time, as new zodiac birthstones, I considered gems that will serve as guardians and symbols for the changes over the next seven years. In Western astrology, from this spring until May 2033, we are in a ‘Gemini Uranus’ phase, which occurs once every 84 years. This period can be interpreted as a time of major transformation in communication and knowledge.”

“Minerals, like animals and plants, are considered one of the basic units that make up the Earth, as can be seen from the suffix ‘-物’ (thing). Gemstones, among the many minerals, are rare selections often made through historical contexts. I hope you can also understand their scientific aspects.”
