Once again, Neapolitan excellence is making its mark on the international stage. This time, it was Filippo Varlese, a young goldsmith and certified diamond analyst, who was tasked with producing two custom pieces (specifically the Platinum Andromeda necklace and the Platinum Supernova ring) for Drake, currently one of the biggest rappers on the international hip hop scene.
The collaboration was born as a gift from someone close to the rapper, who gave Varlese’s creations to the artist.
This is not the first time Varlese has created jewelry for celebrities: he was the hand behind a necklace worn by Geolier during one of the evenings of the 2024 Sanremo Festival. And it doesn’t end there: Sayf and Kid Yugi have also chosen his precious gems.

The case containing the jewelry includes a plaque that reads: “For Drake, From Naples with Love.” The goldsmith is keen to emphasize his city of origin, where he grew up and was able to shape his brilliant creativity.
Filippo explains that “‘Varlese Archive’ is not a real brand, but an archive where I publish my creations. I try to ensure the focus is on the design rather than the material or the stones. I am against this narrative of ‘the more expensive, the better,’ precisely because I come from the suburbs of Naples. I have learned that the love of a millionaire who can afford a 3-carat diamond is not worth more than the love of a worker who wakes up every morning and decides to give a gift to his partner.”

Drake’s Response

The Canadian rapper did not keep his opinion waiting long; in fact, Varlese shared a voice note from Drake saying:

“Brother, thank you for the wonderful jewelry, I will wear it with great pleasure.”
