【New Delhi, I】India’s Total Exports Rise 11.37% to $232.73 Billion in April-June Despite Global Challenges

India’s total exports rose 11.37% year-on-year to $232.73 billion in Q1 FY2026-27, driven by strong merchandise shipments, even as the trade deficit widened to $86.86 billion.

Despite global economic challenges, India’s total exports (goods and services) increased by 11.37% to reach $232.73 billion in the first quarter (April-June) of fiscal year 2026-27, according to data released by the Ministry of Commerce on Monday.

Merchandise Trade

According to ministry data, merchandise exports during April-June FY2027 stood at $129.32 billion, compared to $111.57 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year (FY2026). Meanwhile, the merchandise trade deficit widened to $86.86 billion during this period, up from $68.75 billion in the same period last fiscal year.

Services Trade

On the other hand, estimated services exports during April-June 2026-27 were $103.41 billion, compared to $97.41 billion in April-June 2025-26. The services trade surplus increased to $49.43 billion during this period, up from $47.90 billion in the same period a year earlier.

June 2026 Performance

In June 2026, merchandise exports were recorded at $40.41 billion, compared to $34.98 billion in June last year. Estimated services exports in June 2026 stood at $33.03 billion, compared to $32.11 billion in June 2025.

Non-Petroleum Exports

According to government data, non-petroleum exports during April-June 2026-27 were $106.30 billion, up 12.44% compared to $94.54 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Key Export Sectors

According to the report, the key sectors driving merchandise export growth in June 2026 were gems and jewellery, engineering products, organic and inorganic chemicals, electronic goods, and rice.
Data shows that gems and jewellery exports surged 34.64% to $2.41 billion in June 2026, up from $1.79 billion in June 2025.
Similarly, engineering products exports rose 20.74% to $11.48 billion from $9.51 billion. Organic and inorganic chemicals exports increased 19.42% to $2.77 billion from $2.32 billion.
Additionally, electronic goods exports grew 18.93% to $4.93 billion in June 2026, up from $4.14 billion in June 2025.
Rice exports rose 16.48% to $1.00 billion in June 2026, compared to $0.86 billion in June 2025.
