Committee to Inspect Gold and Silver Jewelry Donated to Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple

Continuous monitoring via CCTV ensures transparency in donation handling at Mahakal Temple. A special committee examines donated gold and silver jewelry for authenticity.

Three-Member Committee for Verification

A three-member committee, comprising an authorized jeweler, an administrative officer, and a temple employee, inspects the donated gold and silver jewelry. The inspection is conducted under live recording and CCTV surveillance. Simmi Yadav, Deputy Administrator and Store Incharge of Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple Management Committee, stated:

“All gold and silver jewelry donated to Mahakal Temple is continuously monitored with the help of cameras. All donation counters are under constant camera surveillance. When a person comes to the donation counter, a bill is requested from them.”

Receipt Issued After Bill Collection

After collecting the bill from the donor, the temple committee issues a receipt. The donated items are then stored, where the three-member committee evaluates them. Gold and silver jewelry is tested on all parameters, and a report is prepared with the percentage of pure gold and silver marked. This entire process is transparent and has been in place since the Temple Act came into effect.

Machine to Be Acquired for Purity Testing

Deputy Collector Simmi Yadav said:

“Gold and silver jewelry is verified on the spot. The temple committee is planning to soon purchase a machine for testing gold and silver jewelry. This machine can be seen in large showrooms. With this machine, the purity of gold and silver can be determined instantly.”

Jeweler Ravindra Soni, an evaluator on the committee, added:

“I have been working on the evaluation committee since 2020-21. Occasionally, someone mistakenly donates a minor metal item. But large crowns and earrings are always found to be genuine. Sometimes, items purchased from fraudulent jewelers turn out to be impure, though this is very rare.”
