Auction House Expansion

Sofía Duarte, Commercial Director of Morton Subastas, announced that the auction house is expanding into the “pearl of Jalisco” (Guadalajara). The company, with over 36 years of experience and headquarters in Mexico City, has maintained a small representative office in Guadalajara for six years, which is now set for expansion.

Interest in Guadalajara’s Market
“We are interested in Guadalajara because we know there is a very important taste for collecting here. This year we have an expansion plan here.”

Duarte explained they are initiating a jewelry consignment clinic, receiving people who wish to sell jewelry and watches. They have a specific alliance with Bonhams, an English auction house. Specialists from both Bonhams and Morton are reviewing pieces consignors want to sell and providing recommendations on where the pieces could achieve a better sale result.

New Office and Services

The new space where Morton Subastas will receive consignors will be ready in approximately three months.

“We are in the process of adaptation and remodeling, but we are going to have our new office at Plaza Américas 1500. With this inauguration, we want to make a toast and bring in more specialists not only in jewelry, but also in antiques, modern art, books, documents, wines and spirits. We want these visits to be constant and we also want to offer talks and conferences, which is something we already do in Mexico City. These talks are free and are precisely for people who are passionate about art to learn more about this world. And of course, we will also offer advice on buying and selling art.”
Company Background

Morton Subastas began as an antiques gallery in the 1980s but held its first auction one year after opening.

“We realized that people had a need to sell various types of pieces, not just antiques, but also modern art, wines and spirits, books, documents, jewelry and watches, so specialized departments were created. Furthermore, we have specialists and appraisers for each theme,” said Sofía Duarte.
