High Number of Violations

Morelia, Michoacán (MiMorelia.com).- On average, about 50 citations are issued daily to motorists for parking in prohibited areas, such as disability access ramps, driveways, and pedestrian crossings, reported Pablo Alarcón Olmedo, acting head of the Municipal Security Commission.

Official Statement

During a press conference, the commissioner highlighted that Morelia implements various operations to promote traffic awareness and education, such as the removal of obstacles from public roads, the “Diamond” operation—which aims to expedite traffic in high-traffic areas—and the motorcycle regulation operation.

However, among the most common problems detected daily by the traffic division of the Morelia Police is parking in prohibited zones.

“From the traffic regulations, the most recurring violation is parking in prohibited places. Daily, I believe around 50 citations are being issued, which are mainly for parking on disability ramps, pedestrian crossings, street corners, or driveways,” he specified.
Regulation Details

It is worth noting that Article 87 of the Morelia Traffic and Road Regulations, which can be consulted on the municipal security corporation’s official website (https://www.policiamorelia.gob.mx/reglamento-de-transito-y-vialidad-municipal/), specifies the areas where parking is prohibited. This aims to provide drivers with the information so they can avoid incurring a violation and receiving a fine.

Among these prohibited areas are: medians, on sidewalks, walkways, traffic islands, roundabouts, or other pathways reserved for pedestrians, cyclists, and other active mobility users.

Also included are driveways, authorized loading and unloading zones, pedestrian crossings, disability access ramps, parking against the flow of traffic, entrances and exits of educational institutions, roadways marked with prohibitions, and all street corners.
