MIKIMOTO x Chrome Hearts Second Collaboration Debuts: How 22K Gold and Pearls Break Traditional Jewelry Boundaries?
Pearls have long been associated with elegance, refinement, and classicism, but in the hands of Chrome Hearts, this most traditional jewelry material can become rebellious, tough, and even rock ‘n’ roll. Following their widely discussed first collaboration in 2024, MIKIMOTO and Chrome Hearts officially launch the second installment of their joint collection. This time, they replace the white gold used in the previous season with 22K gold, rebalancing the visual interplay between pearls and metal.

From White Gold to 22K Gold

The first MIKIMOTO x Chrome Hearts collection used white gold paired with pearls, creating a stark contrast between the cool metallic texture and the lustrous pearls. The second installment switches to 22K gold, giving the overall atmosphere a richer, warmer feel and further amplifying Chrome Hearts’ signature design language of weightiness.
The new collection includes five pieces: a necklace, a bracelet, a pin/brooch, and two drop earrings. Although the metal material has changed, the collection retains Chrome Hearts’ iconic elements such as crosses and spikes, combined with MIKIMOTO pearls and diamonds, showcasing the unexpectedly harmonious aesthetics of two distinctly different brands.
The hue of 22K gold is more intense than standard 18K gold. Set against the soft luster of pearls, it neither diminishes the collection’s rebellious character nor adds a sense of heaviness reminiscent of antique jewelry. This contrast between classic and rock is precisely what makes this collaboration most noteworthy.

Cross Necklace Becomes Collection Highlight

The most iconic piece in the collection is the necklace featuring Chrome Hearts’ cross motif. The design incorporates pearls and diamonds at the center of the cross, placing the hard metal silhouette alongside the rounded pearl luster within a single piece.
Pearls and gold are traditionally a classic combination in high jewelry, but within the enlarged cross symbol, heavy chain links, and asymmetrical proportions, these familiar materials no longer feel conservative. Instead, pearls become the most contrasting element in the overall design, achieving a new balance between luxury and streetwear, elegance and rebellion.

The two drop earrings continue this contrast, with designs linking spikes, crosses, and pearls. The earrings sway naturally with movement, allowing the softness of pearls to collide with the spiky silhouettes, ensuring the pieces retain the refinement of jewelry without losing Chrome Hearts’ strong character.
