The high jewelry presented by Louis Vuitton this year is a voyage into a wondrous world of gemstones, guided by the Maison’s unique codes. It is also a significant stride in sublimating its distinctive fashion codes into jewelry.
Since its founding in 1854, Louis Vuitton has created the ‘Art of Travel’ and built a unique aesthetic that transcends the boundaries of tradition and innovation. This journey, which began with leather trunks, has expanded into luxury bags, accessories, ready-to-wear, watches, and jewelry, each time continuing its global reputation with new attempts and creativity. In particular, Louis Vuitton’s high jewelry collections are not mere adornments but ultimate creations where art, technology, and craftsmanship converge, becoming symbols that further illuminate the Maison’s heritage. The high jewelry collection ‘Virtuosity’ unveiled by Louis Vuitton this summer maximized this brand philosophy.
This collection is divided into two axes: ‘The World of Mastery’ and ‘The World of Creativity’. Under a total of 12 themes, 110 pieces unfold their own worlds. Born from the hands of artisans after long, painstaking hours, they simultaneously rewrite the boundaries of technology and art through original stone settings and Louis Vuitton’s unique design language. They are more than simple jewelry; they are complete works infused with sensation, emotion, and narrative, offering a clear answer to why Louis Vuitton creates high jewelry.
First, the Virtuosity journey begins in ‘The World of Mastery’. It reinterprets the Maison’s codes through seven themes. The theme ‘Savoir’, which opens the first journey, stands out as a masterpiece symbolizing the Maison’s identity. Centered on a triangular motif inspired by the nails and angular form of the Louis Vuitton trunk, it embodies the symbolism of wisdom and craftsmanship passed down over time.
A necklace featuring a 30.56-carat triangular-cut black opal from Australia harmonized with a 28.01-carat emerald was completed after 1,500 hours of meticulous work. The magical colors of the opal and the deep green of the emerald meet to create a striking contrast, offering restrained splendor alongside geometric lines. The theme expands into various forms such as earrings, rings, and bracelets, showcasing at a glance the exceptional technical prowess and aesthetic perfection of Louis Vuitton high jewelry.
Savoir serves as a crucial starting point for the Maison’s high jewelry journey by presenting the overarching aesthetic direction of the collection. The design is also connected to the Maison’s signature patterns. Chevron patterns, the V-shape symbolizing ‘Louis Vuitton’, and precisely placed diamond and emerald beads form the design lines of the jewelry, completing an elegant form. This is the result of Louis Vuitton’s pursuit of architectural aesthetics and sculptural sensibility realized through craftsmanship.
Additionally, the Keeper and Protection themes stand out with their strong, graphic motifs contrasting shield shapes and all-seeing eyes. In Maestria and Monumental, the harmony between the Maison’s iconic Damier pattern and the stone know-how that creates intricate architectural structures demonstrates a flexible sensibility.
The World of Mastery reaches its zenith with Apogée. Inspired by Louis Vuitton’s trunks, this theme features a 30.75-carat pear-cut emerald from Brazil, a gemstone to note in this collection.
The Virtuosity journey now enters the World of Creativity. Here, the most notable theme is ‘Eternal Sun’. Featuring yellow diamonds reminiscent of the sun’s brilliance, the design maximizes the harmony of light and color. The 27 round yellow diamonds totaling 30.06 carats were meticulously collected over a full seven years. Stones imbued with green, purple, and pink hues are exquisitely arranged to create geometric beauty. Notably, the central 14-carat round yellow diamond is crafted with a detachable structure, allowing it to be worn as a ring. This part embodies the technical prowess and innovation of Louis Vuitton high jewelry.
The design of Eternal Sun realizes a powerful spectacle of light through a reinterpretation of Louis Vuitton’s symbolic rope motif in gold twist settings and pavé diamond details. Within a seemingly simple form lies high-level technical skill and meticulous design; it can also be worn in six different ways. The combination of setting techniques and stone placements that reflect light differently depending on the angle elevates Eternal Sun to another level as a work of art.
