Editor’s Note
This article explores how the “Bulgari Kaleidoscope” exhibition extends beyond a traditional gallery, weaving its themes of color and craftsmanship into the very fabric of the Bulgari Hotel Tokyo—from the lobby ascent to exclusive culinary offerings—creating a seamless and immersive guest experience.

The world of “Bulgari Kaleidoscope: Color, Culture, Craftsmanship” unfolds uniquely on the stage of the hotel. Starting with the art experience in the elevator ascending from the first floor to the lobby, to the Heritage Collection that vividly colors history, and culminating in the limited-edition chocolates at Bulgari Dolci. The seamless flow woven between the exhibition and the hotel offers visitors a one-of-a-kind experience.
This exhibition features contemporary artists who resonate with Bulgari’s perspective of color as a source of transformation and perception: Lara Favaretto, Mariko Mori, and Akiko Nakayama. Each artist, through their unique new works, connects the brilliance of jewelry with the expression of contemporary art, presenting new possibilities of color. This time, Bulgari Hotel Tokyo will feature a special video installation by Akiko Nakayama in the hotel’s elevators. Nakayama is an artist who, through her unique technique called “Alive Painting,” incorporates water, mineral pigments, and sound vibrations to depict continuously changing, fluid forms. In the artwork “Echo” presented at the National Art Center, Tokyo, it echoes the dazzling “Convertible Sautoir-Bracelet” (manufactured around 1969) from the Bulgari Heritage Collection, projecting the ephemeral yet powerful beauty of color into the space. Her artistic vision is also reflected in the hotel’s elevators in a unique form. The four elevators, serving as a “small museum floating between earth and sky” ascending from the grand floor to the 40th-floor hotel lobby, will screen four video works themed on looking up at the sky.
• Timepiece: A ceiling painting as if painting time in the sky with a brush.
• Pulsation of the Stars: A fantastical video giving stars a pulse through the rhythm of flow.
• Spaceship: A video of an ephemeral yet powerful bubble spaceship forging ahead through the galaxy.
• Breaking the Night Sky: A dynamic ceiling painting depicting sunlight breaking through the night sky.
Through these themed videos, you can experience various “skyscapes.”

After ascending to the 40th floor via the Immersive Elevators, the windows in the gallery area beyond the doors display the Heritage Collection, which tells the rich history of Bulgari. The numerous pieces displayed in line with the theme of this exhibition reflect the evolution of color expression and design that Bulgari has cultivated. Visitors can feel the brand’s journey and the worldview delivered through this “Bulgari Kaleidoscope: Color, Culture, Craftsmanship.”
After viewing the Heritage Collection, please visit the lounge on the same floor where you can enjoy tea or afternoon tea, or Bulgari Dolci, which marks the finale of this experience. There, we have prepared limited-edition chocolate “Gems” (meaning jewels) inspired by the vivid colors of this exhibition. The five Gems crafted by Maître Chocolatier Gianluca Fusto combine inspiration from color with existing flavors, offering visual delight along with taste.
Five Flavors:
Saffron & Almond (Green Silver) – A rich taste where the aftertaste of spice and the richness of nuts overlap.
Orange Honey (Violet) – A harmony spreading with the sweetness of honey and the freshness of citrus.
Pistachio & Apricot (Yellow) – A refreshing taste played by the combination of fruitiness and nuts.
Black Olive & Olive Oil (Blue) – An unexpected flavor woven from saltiness and mellowness.
Strawberry & Ricotta (Green & Gold) – A luxurious single piece woven from acidity and creamy texture.
