The International Gemological Institute (IGI) has expanded its footprint in North India with a new laboratory in Jaipur, a global hub for colored gemstones. This move underscores the growing market demand and reinforces the city’s pivotal role in the gem and jewelry trade.

The International Gemological Institute (IGI) has inaugurated its second state-of-the-art gemological laboratory in Jaipur. This new facility is located in Jaipur’s Sitapura Industrial Area, globally renowned for colored gemstones, polki jewelry, and traditional ornament craftsmanship. With this expansion, IGI has significantly strengthened its presence in North India.
Jaipur has long been a global hub for the trade and craftsmanship of colored gemstones. Amid changing consumer trends, demand for colored gemstones, multi-gem designs, and personalized jewelry is continuously rising. In this context, accurate identification of a gemstone’s origin, natural condition, and treatment has become extremely crucial for both the industry and consumers. IGI’s new laboratory has been developed with this very need in mind.
This new facility in Jaipur will provide a full spectrum of certification services for diamonds, colored gemstones, and jewelry. The laboratory will utilize advanced analytical equipment such as Raman spectrometry, UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy, and X-ray fluorescence. With the help of these technologies, a microscopic analysis of a gemstone’s internal structure, chemical composition, and inclusions will be conducted to accurately determine its geological origin and history, ensuring transparency and consumer confidence.
This IGI laboratory will serve as a major support for local manufacturers, exporters, and those involved in the jewelry trade. With internationally accredited certification services now available right in Jaipur, it will save both time and cost. Furthermore, through the Sitapura office, IGI will also conduct globally recognized training and educational programs under the IGI School of Gemology, which will strengthen regional skill development.
