GEM Hospital in Coimbatore has unveiled Dr. GEM, an innovative AI-powered cancer intelligence chatbot, on the occasion of World Cancer Day. This launch marks a significant advancement in digital oncology, drawing attention to the critical role of technology in the fight against cancer.
The event featured prominent figures such as A. Sivathanu Pillai, former Chief Controller (R&D) with the Defence Research and Development Organisation, and A. Saravana Sundar, Inspector General of Police for the West Zone in Coimbatore.

One of the event’s key highlights was the demonstration of Dr. GEM, a 24/7 AI-driven cancer care assistant. This chatbot is designed to offer users accurate information, symptom guidance, screening awareness, and post-treatment support, all in a user-friendly, conversational manner. Attendees were shown a video illustration of the chatbot’s functionality, showcasing how individuals can easily engage with Dr. GEM via WhatsApp by scanning a QR code—aiming to foster open dialogue about cancer without fear or embarrassment.
