This article outlines the upcoming release schedule for Ravensburger’s new Disney-themed trading card game, “Disney Lorcana.” The information is based on the publisher’s announcements, but specific gameplay details remain to be confirmed.
Ravensburger will release a new trading card game called “Disney Lorcana.” The game is scheduled to be available in retail starting September 1, 2023. However, according to Ravensburger, it will first appear in specialized hobby stores on August 18, 2023, accompanied by an extensive organized play program. This likely refers to prerelease tournaments, as known from other TCGs.
Ravensburger has not yet released details about the exact gameplay mechanics or rules, but we are receiving information in small doses. To play, you need a deck of 60 cards. On BoardGameGeek, Ryan Miller and Steve Warner are listed as designers, and Luis Huerta is listed as the artist.
In addition to the cards shown so far, the 6 in-game resources, called inks, are also known. The “ink” colors are Amber, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, and Steel. The packaging indicates a recommended age of 8 years and up.
“Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter” is the first set to be released and is said to contain over 200 game cards. According to the publisher, it will be available in English, German, and French. Four sets are planned to be printed per year, though this likely does not apply to the first year. Alongside the launch of “Lorcana,” accessories such as illustrated playmats, card sleeves, deck boxes, and collector’s albums will also be available.
The products planned so far are Boosters, similar to those from other TCGs. For “Disney Lorcana,” they will consist of twelve random game cards, including one foil card and two cards of ‘rare,’ ‘epic,’ or ‘legendary’ rarity.
Three Starter Decks are set to be released, each containing 60 cards in two of the six “ink” colors.
Ravensburger announced there will be a Gift Set containing two oversized foil collector cards, two playable foil cards, four Booster Packs, and markers.
According to Ravensburger’s press release, the Illumineer’s Trove will be available only in English. It includes eight Booster Packs, two deck boxes, and a player’s guide in a thematically designed storage box.
