Christie’s Geneva continued its Luxury Week with the “Magnificent Jewels Including A Bouquet of Gems: A Superb Collection of Jewels by JAR” auction on Wednesday, 14 May 2025. The auction realized CHF60,493,260 | $72,363,223, achieving 100% sold by lot, with an impressive 77% of lots selling above their high estimate. The sale featured 115 lots and captivated bidders for four hours, drawing global participation from 45 countries. Registrants were 46% from EMEA, 26% from the US, and 20% from Asia.

Top Lot: A Historic Blue Diamond

The top lot of the live auction was a Fancy Deep Blue emerald-cut diamond of 6.24 carats, mounted by Boucheron. It was purchased by Moussaieff Jewellers for CHF10,640,000 | $12,727,777 ($2,039,707 per carat), setting an auction record price per carat for a deep blue jewel. The gem saw over five minutes of competitive bidding.

Strong Demand for Colored Gems and Diamonds

Exceptionally strong demand was seen for colored diamonds and precious stones. Highlights included:

– A 10.18-carat Burmese cushion-shaped ruby, which sold for CHF 3,493,500 | $4,178,993 (price per carat: $411,000).
– A fancy vivid blue oval-shaped diamond ring of 3.68 carats set by Graff, sold for CHF4,885,000 | $5,843,533 (price per carat: $1,587,916) and purchased by Lawrence Graff.
– A pair of drop-shaped natural pearls sold for CHF 831,600 | $994,776, doubling their pre-sale estimates.

The JAR Collection

The auction featured “A Bouquet of Gems: A Superb Collection of Jewels by JAR.” This private collection of 21 creations realized CHF 5,943,830 | $7,132,596. It was led by the exceptional “Apricot Blossom” bangle, selling for CHF2,374,258 | $2,840,124 (nearly ten times its pre-sale estimate). The sale closed with an extraordinary diamond necklace by JAR, selling for CHF2,162,500 | $2,840,124 (nearly five times the pre-sale estimate).
