According to a report by China News Service, the “2025 Lab-Grown Diamond Industry Development Report” was released at the 2025 Lab-Grown Diamond Industry Conference held in Zhengzhou, Henan province, last Saturday (6th). The report states that, as of now, the global rough lab-grown diamond production capacity is approximately 40 million carats, with China’s capacity at about 25.2 million carats, accounting for roughly 63%.

Five-Fold Growth Expected

The report predicts that by 2030, the global production capacity for lab-grown diamonds will exceed 120 million carats, with China’s capacity nearing 80 million carats, representing a compound annual growth rate of 26%. From 2026 to 2030, the average growth rate of China’s lab-grown diamond market size is expected to reach 49%, with an anticipated five-fold increase over five years. By 2030, the market size is projected to surpass 102.5 billion yuan (approximately 59.5 billion Malaysian ringgit).

Industry Perspective

In September, Xinhua News Agency quoted Liu Xiaolei, sales manager of the Diamond Business Department at Huanghe Whirlwind, who stated:

“In recent years, the market demand for lab-grown diamonds has shown significant growth. This is partly due to a shift in consumer attitudes and partly due to the multiple advantages of lab-grown diamonds themselves.”

Compared to natural diamonds, lab-grown diamonds are nearly identical in composition and appearance, and they offer certain price advantages.
Xinhua News Agency reported that, unlike the lengthy growth process of natural diamonds, producing a 1-carat lab-grown diamond can take as little as one week.
