Japan Expands Sanctions List

Following the escalation of the Ukraine crisis, Japan has implemented sanctions against Russia in phases. Currently, over 1,000 individuals and more than 120 entities have been affected by these sanctions.

According to a report from TASS cited by China News Service, on March 1, local time, the Japanese Cabinet issued a statement announcing Japan’s decision to expand its sanctions list against Russia, adding 12 individuals and 36 entities.

The latest sanctions list reportedly includes Russia’s famous weapons manufacturer Kalashnikov Group, Russian defense enterprise Almaz-Antey, and the large shipbuilding conglomerate United Shipbuilding Corporation.

Tightened Restrictions on Russian Diamonds

Furthermore, TASS reported on March 1 that Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced strengthened import restrictions on Russian non-industrial diamonds. The measures now prohibit not only direct imports from the Russian Federation but also imports from third countries.

According to Russian media reports, since the escalation of the Ukraine crisis, Japan has imposed phased sanctions on Russia. To date, sanctions have impacted over 1,000 individuals and more than 120 entities.

Additionally, Japan has approved a list of goods and technologies prohibited for export to Russia, which contains approximately 800 items.

G7 Commitment to Increased Sanctions

On February 24, local time, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni chaired a G7 leaders’ video summit in Kyiv, Ukraine, primarily discussing aid to Ukraine.

The meeting concluded with a statement pledging to increase sanctions pressure on Russia.
