1. Introduction

EDP Corporation has been selling seed crystals for producing LGDs using plasma CVD diamond synthesis technology, thin plate fabrication technology, and diamond crystal enlargement technology. Under the diversification strategy of the LGD business, EDP established SFD Corporation (hereinafter “SFD”) in January 2024 with the aim of selling LGDs.

Compared to natural diamonds, LGDs enable the production of diverse designs and large gemstones at low cost. Jewelry using LGDs is sold worldwide, and there is information that LGDs already hold over 20% share in the diamond market. In Japan, jewelry using LGDs is not as widespread as in Europe and the United States, showing a gap with the global market.

Now that the sales structure within our group’s SFD is in place, we have decided to commence sales of LGDs in various shapes and sizes to domestic and international diamond gemstone dealers and jewelry manufacturers from late January 2025.

2. Details of Products for Sale

The LGDs to be sold this time are primarily brilliant-cut loose stones (Note), with individual stone sizes ranging from 1 carat (1ct = 0.200g) to 2 carats. We offer a rich assortment, focusing on stones with high color and clarity grades.

※Note: Loose stones: Cut and polished gemstones.

4. Future Outlook

Our group plans to expand its business in the LGD field, which previously relied on seed crystal sales, to encompass the entire LGD value chain by vertically integrating operations from rough stone production to gemstone sales. We plan not only to sell brilliant-cut diamonds as offered this time but also to create new design gemstones, which are not feasible with natural diamonds, utilizing our large single-crystal technology. Furthermore, we will establish a system for integrated production and sales from rough stones in Japan, aiming for the launch of “Japan Made Diamond.”
