The Tourism Commission of the Alicante Chamber of Commerce “will generate and strengthen” alliances with business associations and public institutions, according to the president of this body, Gema Amor, who was elected by the full Chamber.

The Tourism Commission of the Alicante Chamber of Commerce, which was created seven months ago, was formally constituted today in Benidorm at an event (pictured) attended by the President of the Chamber, Juan Bautista Riera, and the Regional Secretary of Tourism, Francesc Colomer.

The new body, which has not yet established the frequency of its meetings, will have two vice-presidencies. The first falls to the Secretary General of the hotel employers’ association Hosbec, Nuria Montes, and the second to Miguel García Navarro, “a reference in the restaurant sector,” according to Amor. Both are members of the full Chamber.

“We will continue hand in hand with the Generalitat on projects that bet on quality.”

Amor also announced the presentation of the “Made in Costa Blanca” project together with the Provincial Council, “which will attempt to link tourism and the industrial part of the province.”

Regarding the University of Alicante, she added that they already have the commitment of the rector to “advance and promote new training and employment programs.”

Amor considered that these alliances “are necessary to place the tourism sector at the top.”

“The Chamber’s tourism commission will also ‘continue to analyze’ the Brexit issue with the different business sectors.”

At today’s meeting, the draft decree on Tourist Accommodations was discussed and some details of Alicante Gastronómica, an event that will take place at IFA in February, were announced.

Riera highlighted the role of the Tourism Commission “because we are talking about the most important economic sector in the province” and added that “from this commission we will contribute ideas and projects beneficial to the sector.”

Francesc Colomer, for his part, stressed the importance of the Chamber “strengthening its tourism vocation and commitment,” and also highlighted the relationship his department has maintained with the Chamber itself “as demonstrated by programs such as Sicted, Acetur and others for destination repositioning.”

Colomer also emphasized that the new Tourism Law considers Chambers “as a fundamental agent in the design of tourism policy.”
