India’s Leadership Role

India will assume the role of Vice-Chair of the Kimberley Process from today and will become the Chair from January 1st of next year. The Kimberley Process is a tripartite initiative involving governments, the international diamond industry, and civil society, aimed at ensuring that diamond trade is conflict-free to promote a legitimate diamond industry.

India’s Agenda for 2025-2026

As Vice-Chair in 2025 and Chair in 2026, India will work with all participants and observers to ensure compliance with the rules, enhance its credibility in line with its core objectives and evolving global expectations, and steer the Kimberley Process towards becoming a more inclusive and effective multilateral framework.

About the Kimberley Process

This initiative currently has 60 participants representing over 99 percent of global rough diamond trade, making it the most comprehensive international mechanism governing this sector.
