An exceptional purple star sapphire was unveiled this Saturday in Sri Lanka by anonymous owners ready to sell the precious stone for several hundred million dollars.
Named “Star of Pure Land,” this stone is believed to be the largest documented natural purple star sapphire in the world, according to specialists. This gives it an estimated value between 300 and 400 million dollars.
The precious stone belongs to a group of owners, the Star of Pure Land group, who wished to remain anonymous for security reasons. According to their description, the “Star of Pure Land” was discovered in 2023 in a quarry near Rathnapura, a remote city in Sri Lanka nicknamed the “City of Gems.”
It was purchased at the time along with other gemstones, and approximately two years later, its owners discovered it was, in fact, an exceptional stone. They then had it certified by two laboratories to confirm their remarkable discovery.
Unveiled with great fanfare in Colombo, the country’s capital, the 3,563-carat sapphire now awaits a buyer. Provided one is willing to pay the price…
