Kim Kardashian Wins Bid for Necklace Once Owned by Princess Diana

Kim Kardashian has won the bid for a necklace once owned by Princess Diana.

According to People magazine, Kim purchased the diamond-studded amethyst Attallah cross pendant, which the late Princess Diana wore, for $197,453 (approximately 25 million yen) at Sotheby’s annual Royal and Noble auction. Princess Diana tragically passed away in a car accident in 1997 at the age of 36. The pendant is named after the late princess’s friend, the former CEO of Garrard, the British royal jeweler.

“This is a bold piece that, by its size, color, and style, cannot help but give a vibrant message, whether of faith or fashion, or both. We are delighted that this piece has found a new lease of life in the hands of another globally recognized figure,”

said Christian Spofforth, Head of Jewelry at Sotheby’s London, in a statement.

Further reports from the magazine state that Kim said,

“I am honored to be able to own this magnificent piece of jewelry that belonged to the late princess.”

Diana wore the necklace in 1987 to a charity party in London, pairing it with a purple Victorian velvet dress designed by Catherine Walker.

Details of the Pendant

The press release for the pendant described it as follows:

“This cross-shaped pendant is believed to have been created by Garrard as a one-off private commission for a regular client. It is a bold and colorful piece featuring a square-cut amethyst accented with circular-cut diamonds. The total diamond weight of the cross is approximately 5.25 carats, and its dimensions are about 136 x 95 mm. This cross is believed to have been worn exclusively by the princess and has not been seen in public since her death.”
