A 65-year-old man died after falling from a 100-meter cliff while hiking with friends at Mo Tian Cliff in Mui Wo, Lantau Island, Hong Kong. Authorities dispatched a helicopter for rescue, but he was pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital. Hong Kong media later identified the victim as Lo Ka-chung, a renowned jewelry businessman and philanthropist.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 12:18 PM on September 25. Lo Ka-chung was hiking with 16 other friends when he fell from the cliff at Mo Tian Cliff. The Government Flying Service helicopter was deployed to airlift him to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police have interviewed his hiking companions and preliminarily ruled out foul play. The initial assessment suggests he lost his footing and fell down the slope. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Lo Ka-chung co-founded Fu Heng Jewelry in Hong Kong in 1944 with his brother. The company has operated for over half a century, earning him the nickname “Jewelry King.” He was also known for his philanthropic efforts, frequently donating to charities and community organizations in Hong Kong. In addition to his role as Chairman, he served as Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Diamond Federation, Chairman of the Hong Kong Jewelry & Jade Manufacturers Association, and was appointed as a member of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council’s Jewelry Advisory and Exhibition Committee.
