New York—A nearly 17-carat Kashmir sapphire was the star of Christie’s online jewelry auction.
The cabochon gemstone, set in a platinum ring accented with tapered baguette-cut diamonds, sold within its estimate for $1 million.
Other top lots included a 5.82-carat sapphire and diamond ring that achieved $711,200, more than double its high estimate of $300,000.
Also, a 25-carat diamond ring sold for $762,000 against a pre-sale estimate of $400,000-$600,000.
Among the standout results were a ring featuring a padparadscha sapphire of 26.17 carats which sold for $107,950, and a Cartier emerald and diamond ring, which achieved $101,600—both realizing more than three times their high-end estimate of $30,000.
More than half of the bidders and buyers were from the Americas, the auction said, and, of all participants, 26 percent were new to Christie’s.
