In her current work, Deborah Rudolph focuses on the material glass – a material that embodies both fragility and permanence. The starting point is found glass pieces she collects on beaches. Worn smooth by the sea, marked by sand, salt, and movement, they bear visible traces of time and natural transformation.
These water-shaped fragments are carefully processed by her and transformed into jewelry. The original character of the material is consciously preserved: edges are smoothed, surfaces are matted, colors are altered by sun and sea. The sea thus becomes a co-creator – nature as a shaping force.
In parallel, Rudolph works with glass bottles, whose original function she dissolves by cutting and reshaping them. Vases and bowls emerge from everyday objects. Here too, glass is experienced as a transformable material – shaped by human manufacture, further developed through artistic intervention.
At the center of her work is the question of transformation: How do time, nature, and humans change a material? Glass becomes a carrier of memory, movement, and duration. The works tell of cycles – of discarding and rediscovering, of reshaping and reinterpreting – and make visible that change itself is a form of design.
Deborah Rudolph is a jewelry designer with a studio in Offenbach/Frankfurt am Main. She has been working independently since 2012, developing contemporary jewelry at the intersection of design and craftsmanship.
From 2005 to 2010, she studied jewelry design at the University of Trier, specializing in gemstone and jewelry design in Idar-Oberstein. For her diploma, she was awarded the Zonta Prize and the Graduate Prize of Galerie Marzee. Previously, she completed training as a “State-certified Designer for Jewelry and Objects” at the Goldschmiedeschule Pforzheim (2002–2005).
In 2011, she received the “Talente Award” in Munich, and in 2012, the “Hessian State Prize” from the Association of Arts and Crafts Hessen e.V.
In her work, Deborah Rudolph combines craftsmanship precision with a clear formal language and a sensitive engagement with material and body.
