This article reports on a meeting between Vietnamese and Canadian officials to discuss sustainable supply chains, highlighting Vietnam’s growing engagement in international trade partnerships.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Department of Multilateral Trade Policy, on February 3, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long held a meeting with Mr. John Hannaford, Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of Canada to the European Union (EU), during his visit to Vietnam.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long and the Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of Canada to the European Union (EU) agreed that it is necessary to promote the development of sustainable supply chains in the logistics and agricultural sectors.
In his opening remarks, Mr. John Hannaford emphasized the importance of the CPTPP-EU dialogue for Canada and the special attention of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. He expressed pleasure that Vietnam has agreed to co-chair the CPTPP-EU dialogue for CPTPP members in 2026, and expressed confidence that under Vietnam’s leadership, this dialogue will achieve its specific goals this year.

The topics discussed included: digital trade, trade and investment facilitation, trade diversification, and supply chain restoration. Based on this, both sides agreed to actively coordinate and exchange information to promptly approve a detailed implementation plan for the CPTPP-EU dialogue in 2026, enabling effective joint implementation by both CPTPP and the EU.

At the end of the working session, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long and Mr. John Hannaford discussed several potential areas of cooperation of mutual interest, such as promoting the development of sustainable supply chains in the logistics and agricultural sectors, increasing investment attraction from Canada to Vietnam, and sharing experiences in implementing large-scale energy projects.
Both sides believe that with the goodwill and close trade relations built through free trade agreements, especially the CPTPP, Vietnam and Canada will continue to achieve many concrete cooperation results in the future.
