Editor’s Note
As the 2026 Lunar New Year approaches, ensuring a stable supply of goods and controlling prices are top priorities. This article outlines the coordinated efforts by local authorities and businesses to meet demand and maintain market stability during the peak shopping season.
The period leading up to the 2026 Lunar New Year (Tet) is the peak shopping season for people. Price stabilization and goods stockpiling have been identified as a key and continuous task by all levels and sectors in the province. The Department of Industry and Trade has actively coordinated with distribution businesses, supermarket chains, and shopping malls to implement comprehensive solutions to ensure abundant supply, stable prices, and safe quality, thereby creating favorable conditions for people to shop with peace of mind.
As early as mid-2025, the Department of Industry and Trade worked with key retail units in the area to plan for stockpiling essential goods during the Tet holidays. Inspections and surveys conducted at supermarkets and shopping malls revealed that sufficient preparations for essential goods had been made, including a wide range of products to meet people’s consumer needs before, during, and after Tet.

In the Co.opMart system, negotiations with suppliers on stockpile quantities had already been conducted, resulting in an average increase of 15-40% compared to normal days. Notably, Co.opMart Ben Tre (An Hoi Ward) has increased its total stock for Tet by approximately VND 40 billion, encompassing about 300 tons of various goods, with essential and fast-moving consumer goods being the main focus. The supermarket has registered with the Department of Industry and Trade for price stabilization for 13 product categories, primarily food and groceries.
Ms. Tran Thi Bich Hoang, Deputy Director of Co.opMart Ben Tre Supermarket, stated that major retailers have continued to import goods continuously until the 29th day of Tet to avoid any supply disruptions during busy days.
At GO! Supermarket (Son Dong Ward), sufficient stock arrangements have already been made. According to Ms. Le Thi Thanh Lon, Director of GO! Supermarket, the volume of prepared goods has increased by about 15-20% compared to the same period last year; essential items such as noodles, milk, cooking oil, fish sauce, laundry detergent, meat, fish, and vegetables have been given top priority. Regarding fresh food, GO! Supermarket maintains continuous supply, with the final shipment expected to arrive at the supermarket on the 29th day of the Lunar New Year to meet people’s shopping needs.
At Co.opMart, several large promotional programs are continuously run during the Tet shopping season, including a 59-day promotional series applied to over 26,000 items. Discounts of up to 50% are offered on many essential goods, helping to reduce the financial burden on consumers and stabilize market prices.
Meanwhile, GO! Supermarket has adopted several practical measures to keep prices stable, the most prominent being the “Non-Profit Pork” program. To implement this program, GO! regularly monitors and compares prices on other distribution channels such as traditional markets, supermarkets, and convenience stores to provide reasonable and stable prices and limit fluctuations. Not only pork but also other essential products like fish and vegetables undergo weekly price reviews to ensure stable prices during the Tet holidays.
A key achievement in market stabilization efforts during this year’s Tet festival is the widespread dominance of Vietnamese goods in modern distribution systems. Domestic products are the mainstay, accounting for over 90% of the total goods sold at Co.opMart and GO! stores. Notably, high-quality Vietnamese products are a significant factor. This is a concrete result of the effective implementation of the “Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods” campaign and reflects positive changes in people’s awareness and consumer behavior.
According to Ms. Tran Thi Bich Hoang, Deputy Director of Co.opMart Ben Tre Supermarket, local OCOP (One Commune One Product) products are actively promoted by the Co.opMart system and are directly included in Tet gift baskets. OCOP products are displayed in easily visible and attractive locations such as lobbies, central counters, and Tet gift sections, making it easier for consumers to identify and choose them. Many Tet gift baskets are designed by harmoniously combining essential consumer goods and the province’s OCOP products, ensuring both quality and local specificity.
