On February 14th, the fourth session of the Seventh Shenzhen Municipal People’s Congress opened at the Civic Center Auditorium. The meeting reviewed the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government Work Report. Shenzhen NPC Deputy and Vice General Manager of Human Resources at Kingold Fortune Supply Chain Co., Ltd., Wang Qi, attended this session. After listening to the Government Work Report delivered by Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee Deputy Secretary and Mayor Qin Weizhong, she felt full of confidence. Among the contents, mentions of Yantian District, the International Consumption Center City, making manufacturing a pillar, and talent settlement and career happiness particularly impressed her deeply.
As a post-90s NPC deputy who also works in enterprise human resources, Wang Qi paid special attention this year to topics related to the construction of a childcare system for children under three years old. Development is inseparable from talent, and childcare for children under three directly relates to whether talent with relevant needs can settle down and work with peace of mind. Wang Qi told Southern Finance and Economics All-Media reporters that in enterprises, she often encounters situations where employees request leave to care for children under three, and some employees even have to resign helplessly because there is no one to care for their infants at home. Regarding this, Wang Qi, as a person in charge of an enterprise’s human resources department and also a mother, empathized deeply and drafted the “Suggestions on Further Promoting the Construction of Our City’s Childcare System for Children Under Three.”
Wang Qi’s delegation is the Yantian delegation. Yantian is the only district in the city that is interconnected by land and sea with Hong Kong, with a solid foundation for Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation. Furthermore, the “Northern Metropolis Development Strategy” proposed in Hong Kong outlines a spatial framework of “twin cities, three circles,” and the development of the ecological and recreational area of the Shenzhen River/Indo-Pacific aligns highly with the planning of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation zone envisioned by Yantian District.
Wang Qi told Southern Finance and Economics All-Media reporters that although Yantian’s area is not large and its population is not huge, its unique geographical location and advantages such as possessing scenic spots like the Eastern Huaxia City are of great help to Shenzhen’s cooperation in the consumption field, and Hong Kong also has the intention to connect with Shenzhen. Especially under the circumstances of boosting domestic demand, the mention of Yantian in the Government Work Report has given great confidence for Yantian’s future development.
Currently, Shenzhen is accelerating the construction of a logistics center and an international consumption center city with global influence. In Wang Qi’s view, these major strategies are closely related to the development of her industry.
Kingold Fortune is a jewelry full-industry-chain group. Taking its subsidiary Guangfutong Holdings as an example, the company is mainly engaged in the smart supply chain for bulk commodities. After the report was released, Wang Qi immediately thought of the planning of her company’s business segment. The company is increasing the construction of a digital platform for the smart supply chain, hoping to use digital technology to integrate supply chain logistics, capital flow, etc., allowing the entire industry chain to share information, eliminate information gaps, and promote higher efficiency and transparency in business.
Industry insiders believe that the traditional business model of the jewelry industry is clearly incompatible with the current market, and the pace of transformation and upgrading is already urgent.
The “Government Work Report” points out that it will benchmark against high-end, cutting-edge standards and implement the industrial quality improvement action. It aims to enhance the international competitiveness of industries such as clothing, furniture, watches, gold and jewelry, and eyeglasses, and build a global pace-setting city.
How to carry out transformation, upgrading, and change is crucial for the future development of the industry. Wang Qi stated that the aforementioned industries are Shenzhen’s traditional advantageous industries, but there is still a long way to go to build a global pace-setting city. In this process, besides technological change, more attention should be paid to brand building and enhancing brand awareness.
With the recovery of consumption after the pandemic, the popularity of gold and jewelry in discretionary consumption is also constantly increasing. Against the backdrop of Shenzhen accelerating the construction of an influential consumption center, the gold and jewelry industry will also usher in new opportunities and challenges.
Wang Qi introduced that in recent years, many jewelry companies have gradually shifted from serving B-end customers to C-end, hoping to use digital means to conduct precise marketing and high-end customization for consumers. In the future, Kingold Fortune also hopes that consumers can directly choose their favorite gold jewelry through cloud customization mini-programs.
As early as two years ago, many jewelry companies had already started deploying mini-programs, but the pace of transformation is not easy. Wang Qi said that compared to internet companies, traditional gold and jewelry companies do not understand some of the “tricks” of modern online marketing very well. Internet companies have more users and data, enabling them to quickly and accurately locate core users.
In recent years, the childcare issue has not only become an important factor affecting fertility rates but has also impacted whether talent can settle down and work with peace of mind.
According to relevant data statistics, the average age of parturient women in Shenzhen is 30 years old. Young mothers have to balance career and family; the level of specialization and standardization in Shenzhen’s childcare institutions varies, and most are profit-oriented. The childcare issue for infants has become a ‘pain point’ for many families.
Wang Qi believes that Shenzhen’s childcare system has the following problems: First, there are few childcare institutions, and resource distribution is uneven. Second, childcare institutions lack authoritative quality guidance, and the treatment of childcare professionals is generally low. Third, it is difficult for childcare institutions to achieve universal benefit sharing. In this regard, she suggested: First, adhere to the priority of universal benefits and accelerate the improvement of the city’s childcare system construction. Second, strengthen the standardized management of childcare institutions and improve the quality of infant care services. Third, leverage the joint role of multiple departments to form a co-construction and co-management situation.
