Gold Ornaments Seized from Sanjay Surekha’s House

Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested steel company owner Sanjay Surekha. The businessman was arrested late last night. He is accused of defrauding 16 banks of Rs 6,000 crore. Is this money somehow smuggled abroad? The investigating agency is looking into this. It may be noted that during yesterday’s ED raid, gold ornaments worth Rs 4.5 crore and luxury cars were seized from his house located in Kolkata. He will be produced in the ED’s special court this afternoon.

Had Taken a Loan of 6 Thousand Crore from Banks

The ED conducted raids at 10 locations linked to Surekha, including his residence in Baliganj, from where gold ornaments and several foreign-made luxury cars were seized. According to sources, this arrest is part of an investigation into a Rs 6,000 crore bank fraud linked to at least 16 banks across the country. Sources revealed that Surekha took a loan of Rs 6,000 crore through multiple accounts and claims, but failed to repay it.

Luxury Cars Seized

The ED had been investigating Surekha’s role in this fraud case for over a year. During interrogation, he could not give satisfactory answers regarding the misuse of funds and the seized ornaments. Furthermore, Surekha could not produce valid documents for the valuables found at his residence.
