In response to rising theft and robbery incidents in Bihar, jewelers have implemented a strict policy. Customers entering jewelry shops with their faces covered will no longer be sold ornaments. The Bihar unit of the All India Jewelers and Goldsmiths Federation (AIJGF) has issued directives to its members in this regard.
AIJGF Bihar unit president Ashok Kumar Verma told reporters in Patna on Wednesday that the decision was taken purely for security reasons. He stated that customers wearing masks or women entering the shop in hijab will neither be shown ornaments nor sold any.
Verma noted that in recent days, masked criminals have carried out robbery incidents in jewelry shops in several parts of the country. In Bihar, a jewelry shop in Bhojpur district was looted of ornaments worth approximately ₹25 crore in March 2024, while a jewelry store in Siwan district was targeted in November.
