A heart-shaped diamond pendant was the top seller at the latest Bonhams New York jewelry auction, exceeding its high estimate and fetching $343,400.
The necklace bearing the 10.22-carat, D-color, VVS2-clarity diamond carried an upper price tag of $250,000 at the December 9 New York Jewels sale, Bonhams said Tuesday. In total, the 195-lot auction garnered $4.3 million, with 82% of items on offer finding buyers. Auction participants snapped up jewels from designers including Bulgari, Cartier, David Webb, Harry Winston, Tiffany & Co., and Van Cleef & Arpels.

“We were privileged to present a delightful collection of signed jewels with colorful and vivid gemstones, together with several impressive single-owner collections, in our final New York Jewels sale of the year,” said Caroline Morrissey, director and head of jewelry for New York at the auction house. “We are delighted with the results of the sale.”

She particularly singled out the “strong result for the private estate of the late Cortney Beebe.” Beebe, who died of breast cancer in August, was a cofounder of the Cortney and Kevin Beebe TNBC Research Fund, which benefits the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center, Breast Cancer Center. Beebe’s husband Kevin is donating the sale’s proceeds to the fund.
