A 30.10-carat pink diamond, unseen on the market for over 50 years, soared past its high estimate to sell for $2.6 million at a recent Hong Kong auction, underscoring the enduring strength of the top-tier colored gemstone market.

Hong Kong—A very light pink colored diamond weighing more than 30 carats was the highlight of Bonhams’ recent Hong Kong Jewels & Jadeite sale.
The 30.10-carat, VVS2 loose stone sold for $2.6 million (or $87,163 per carat) against an estimate of $1.5 million to $2.3 million. It was offered from the property of a prestigious Asian collector, where it was kept in the same private collection for more than 50 years.
Other fancy colored diamond pieces also did well at the sale.
A three-stone ring featuring a fancy pink diamond, fancy deep yellow diamond, and fancy intense yellow-green diamond, sold for HK$2.5 million ($326,852 at current exchange rates), more than four times its estimate of HK$600,000 to $1.2 million ($77,088 to $154,175).

The 160-lot jewelry auction, which occurred as part of Bonham’s inaugural sales at its new Asia headquarters, took place on Nov. 28 and achieved HK$69 million ($8.9 million).
Other highlights included the sale of colored gemstones and finished jewelry.

A Kat Florence pendant necklace featuring a 126.25-carat Paraíba-type tourmaline and 16.28 carats of pavé-set diamonds garnered 22 bids, selling for HK$4.2 million ($538,971), outshining the high-end of its pre-sale estimate of HK$2.5 million ($321,200).
A sapphire and diamond necklace and pendant earring set (est. HK$450,000 to HK$900,000) sold for HK$1.6 million ($204,475).
A diamond ring centering a 10.03-carat Burmese ruby (est. HK$500,000 to HK$1 million) sold for HK$829,500 ($106,574).
Another pendant necklace featuring a 135.90-carat emerald and a 5.01-carat diamond sold for HK$2.3 million ($294,218), more than four times its high estimate of HK$500,000 ($64,240).

Eight pieces from Cartier achieved a combined total of HK$1.2 million ($147,751).
The group was led by a pair of diamond “Habana” earrings, which sold for HK$358,400 ($46,047).
