What are the rules regarding gold?

If you shop in Dubai, you should know how much gold and laptops you can bring in without paying customs duty.

The number of people traveling to Dubai from India is steadily increasing. Many people also indulge in extensive shopping there. But to prevent this shopping from becoming costly, you should be aware of the rules. People often ask how much gold or laptop can be brought from Dubai without paying customs duty.

“The government recently introduced new customs duty regulations. According to these rules, men can bring up to 20 grams of jewelry and women up to 40 grams of jewelry to India without paying customs duty. However, they must have lived in Dubai for at least one year.”

If you’re going on a short trip, the rules are different. Many people travel to Dubai for a month or two or a week or two, and these individuals can make purchases totaling up to ₹75,000. Furthermore, only worn jewelry or small purchases can be brought in without customs duty.

The limit for importing goods from abroad without customs duty was ₹50,000, which has now been increased to ₹75,000. However, this limit applies only to goods for personal use, not commercial goods. Furthermore, foreign tourists visiting India could previously import duty-free goods worth up to ₹15,000, but this limit has been increased to ₹25,000 to provide greater convenience.

Laptop Limit

A passenger can import one laptop, which will not incur customs duty. The ₹75,000 purchase limit will not apply. Digital and advance baggage declaration services are also offered for those arriving from abroad, reducing paperwork and reducing travel time at the airport. However, items such as gold bars, cars, televisions, alcohol, and tobacco will still be subject to duty.

“The government has implemented new customer package rules effective February 2, 2026. This has raised many questions.”
