New Delhi: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has laid the foundation stone for a revamp of the middle lane in Khan Market as part of efforts to upgrade civic infrastructure in the area. The project includes the laying of a new drainage system, pavements, and granite flooring. It also includes the installation of a new water supply line, duct and conduit pipes for electrical and other utility services, replacement of existing manhole covers, and the installation of stainless-steel dustbins.
Laying the foundation stone on Saturday, NDMC Vice-Chairman Kuljeet Chahal said the council’s 2026–27 budget placed emphasis on the redevelopment and upgradation of prominent markets, with Khan Market — one of the capital’s iconic commercial hubs — receiving special and sustained attention.
The scope of the project launched on Saturday also includes laying a 400-mm-diameter drainage line with gully trap chambers and fixing leather-finish granite stone flooring in the middle lane. The project has a stipulated completion period of three months, with an estimated cost of ₹1.2 crore, and is scheduled to be completed by April 2026.
Chahal also said that additional face-lifting work is being undertaken at the entry points of Khan Market.
NDMC had earlier introduced mechanized wet cleaning during night hours to ensure a dust-free environment during shopping hours. Now, regular inspections are being carried out in coordination with market traders’ associations to check the status of work.
