This article reports on the discovery of a historic 170-carat pink diamond in Angola, a find of significant rarity and potential value.

A rare 170-carat pure pink diamond, believed to be the largest rough diamond of its kind discovered in 300 years, has been found at a mine in Angola. The discovery was made at the Lulo alluvial mine in northeastern Angola and announced by the Australian company Lucapa Diamond, which manages the site.
The diamond has been renamed “The Lulo Rose” and will be sold by the Angolan state diamond marketing company, Endiama, through an international tender.
The find was welcomed by the Angolan government. Angolan Minister of Mineral Resources, Diamantino Azevedo, stated in a release:
Similar stones, once cut and polished, have achieved record prices. In 2017, “The Pink Star,” a 59.6-carat pink diamond, sold for $71.2 million, the highest price ever paid for a gem.
