An exceptional pink diamond of 19-carat purity, the ‘Pink Legacy’, will be auctioned on November 13 in Geneva by Christie’s, which estimates its value between USD 30 and USD 50 million.

Expert Commentary on Rarity
“Its weight is 18.96 carats. Most pink diamonds weigh less than one carat, so this is a very considerable weight,”

Jean-Marc Lunel, Christie’s international jewelry specialist, explained to AFP.

Origin and History
“The diamond comes from the mines of South Africa. It was cut a long time ago: it was found almost a century ago and was probably cut in the 1920s,”

stated Lunel.

Recent Market Records

The international diamond market set a record in November when Christie’s organized the sale of “The Pink Promise”, an oval-shaped ‘fancy vivid’ pink diamond of just under 15 carats, for USD 32.48 million, equating to USD 2.17 million per carat.

However, much earlier, in 2013, a large 59.60-carat pink diamond was sold for USD 83 million.
