Daewoo E&C has unveiled the design for ‘TRILLIANT BANPO,’ a major redevelopment project in Seoul’s Banpo district created in collaboration with global design firm UN Studio. This article details the project’s unique architectural inspiration.

Daewoo Engineering & Construction (CEO Kim Hyung) unveiled the design plan for ‘TRILLIANT BANPO’ on the 24th, a project developed in collaboration with world-renowned designers including UN Studio.
Daewoo E&C proposed the single-brand ‘Trilliant Banpo’ for the Banpo 3rd District redevelopment project, for which bidding closed on the 10th.
The name ‘Trilliant Banpo’ draws its motif from the ‘trilliant cut,’ a diamond-cutting method known for producing the most beautiful finish. It embodies Daewoo E&C’s commitment to creating a high-end residential space in Banpo, the heart of Gangnam, that shines as brilliantly and luxuriously as a diamond.

Daewoo E&C stated that, as Trilliant Banpo is a single-brand project, it collaborated with the world’s top designers to propose a unique, specialized design plan.
The exterior design of Trilliant Banpo is handled by UN Studio, famous for projects like the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Germany and Raffles City Hangzhou in China. As the name ‘Trilliant’ suggests, the complex’s exterior design is inspired by diamond crystals. Utilizing louvers and curtain wall elements that reflect sunlight to create a subtle sheen, the design aims to complete a signature exterior unique to Trilliant Banpo.

The landscaping is entrusted to Grant Associates, the firm behind the landscaping of Gardens by the Bay, a world-famous tourist attraction in Singapore’s Marina Bay. Plans include introducing a hotel-grade water play park and Korea’s first sunken theme garden within the complex, offering landscaping distinct from conventional apartments. Furthermore, the project will create themed walking paths and pedestrian bridges connected to the nearby Banpo Stream and neighborhood parks.
The community facilities, designed by the globally top-ranked interior design firm HBA, are also noteworthy. The complex is divided into four zones—Sky Zone, Sunken Forest Zone, Cafe Street Zone, and Life Street Zone—each designed according to its specific concept. Premium facilities such as a sky lounge, guest house, terrace cafe, swimming pool, sauna, and golf driving range are intended to serve as venues for high-level community interaction among residents.
Theme spaces like children’s playgrounds and garden facilities are being developed in collaboration with carve, and plans include installing sculptures by Ken Kelleher, a master of surrealist art sculpture, to enhance the complex’s prestige.

The Banpo 3rd District project is a large-scale redevelopment initiative located at 1109 Banpo-dong, Seocho-gu. It involves the new construction of 17 apartment buildings (3 basement floors, 35 above-ground floors) with 2,091 units and ancillary welfare facilities. A general meeting to select the construction company is planned for around the end of May.
